Carl Coryell-Martin November 23, 2009 Announcements

Important announcement: iPod Touches and iPhones running versions of iOS 3 and earlier are not able currently to run the new BirdsEye 1.4 .  If you have an old device with iOS 3, do not upgrade to 1.4.  Despite promised 'backwards compatibility' of the iOS, Apple appears to have left those users behind as they moved to iOS 5.  We are working on fixes that will allow iOS 3 users to use BirdsEye 1.4 but they are not yet available. As soon as they are, we will let you know.

Welcome! We're thrilled that you are interested in BirdsEye and look forward to hearing what you have to say.

BirdsEye has been out in the app world now for over 2 years now, with thousands of satisfied users having more fun birding because they're able to find more birds.

In June 2010, we launched BirdsEye Lite.  This application is designed to help people new to birding begin finding birds near their homes and while they travel on business and vacation.  It has records of bird sightings from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology for 135 species of birds in the US and Canada... birds that will be easy for beginners to find. We've also included songs, photos and text for these species, just like in BirdsEye itself, which has all this information for 847 species. And once you figure out where the birds are that you want to see, BirdsEye and BirdsEye Lite can send you to the Map App to get easy directions.

We launched BirdsEye 1.4 in November 2011.  It has some cool new features.  We're most excited by the new 'hotspot' view that highlights hotspots where new life birds for you have recently been seen.  Hotspots with rare birds and unusual observations are also highlighted.

And now species maps show the 1000 locations of recent observations of species, instead of 20 (as in previous versions).  This gives you a great overview of continent-wide distributions of each bird.  Version 1.4 also includes a new way to choose your birding location.

In early December we discovered some problems caused by heavy use of the servers, but they have now been fixed (as of 9 December).

Please enjoy BirdsEye, and let it help you find the birds that you want to see!

We want to hear how you are using this app.  Please share your stories, questions and ideas either publicly in the forums or via email to support@getbirdseye.com and together we can make it easier to find birds.
